On Day 4, the ship arrived at Phuket as early as 7am. Unlike at Penang, where the ship docked and anyone can walk to the pier. At Phuket, probably due to shallow water near the shore, bigger ships were unable to dock. So, our cruise ship dropped its anchor in the middle of the sea and tendered to a pier near Patong Beach. Tender refers to smaller ship that transports people to/fro bigger ship and shore.
For those guests who had purchased shore excursions, they would automatically be assigned on tenders and be transported to their respective venues. For other guests who wished to get ashore, tender ticket distribution started at 8.30am.
After breakfast, I went to collect tender tickets for all of us. It was quite a wait and we got ashore at around 11am. My mum and brother did not want to have massage, they joined another couple we met on cruise and the 4 of them went for lunch at a restaurant on the beach and did some shopping in that area. DT and I went into town area to get our massages.
After a short distance, we passed by Venus Spa, located at Mercure Phuket Deevana . We went in to check out the place and its services. The interior was very decent and clean, the staff spoke simple English, the prices were reasonable too.
I took the 185 minutes spa treatment package, after 10% discount, it was 3,150 Baht (S$126) while DT took an hour foot massage at 600 Baht (S$24). They gave us the couple's room.
3 hours+ spa treatment consisted of:
15 min - steam bath
45 min - body scrub
20 min - floral milk bath
85 min - aroma sport massage + herbal hot compress
20 min - foot massage
Couple room attached with shower and toilet |
Red steamer to heat the herbal compress ball |
Latest Info (14-07-2017)
The hotel is now known as Deevana Plaza Phuket, where the massage parlour is Orientala Spa.
There was free Wifi in the cafe but connection was not very good. We ordered 2 set lunch (with drinks, 199 Baht each set) and a bowl of tom yam goong (260 Baht, not in picture). The food was really so so and I would not recommend.
Thai Fried Rice, Pad Thai Goong |
We returned to the jetty at around 5pm+, the queue was quite long but moved very fast. There were crew members who would inspect SeaPass cards, and at the end of the jetty, there were a few stations serving iced water to guests. Such gesture was really sweet and it really felt like we were going "home-ship-home"! Below photos were taken while on tender.
On that evening, there were at least 2 more other cruise liners' ships on the sea. The smaller ships were tenders that transported passengers to/fro shore.
Unbelievable coincidence that the above photo captured my mum on the balcony. After dinner, when we returned to our stateroom, there was a "monkey" welcoming us! Really cute.
At 2am, the ship's clock moved forward an hour, back to UTC+8, Singapore Time. End of Day 4.
